    FAILURE ANALYSIS OF COVER FOR A TURBINE

    • The cover for a turbine of a factory is cracking after operating three months. The cracke is investigated by inspections using optical and scan electronic microscope and the composition analysis by using chemical and the EDS methods. The results shows that the major reason of the crack of a cover for a turbine is that there are inclusion in the steel and the inclusion initiates fatigue crack. The fatigue crack extends under the applied stress.
