Application of Trace Analysis Technology in Mechanical Failure Analysis

The trace analysis technology and its application in mechanical failure analysis were summarized. All the traces could be classified into three categories according to their characteristics, and they were mechanical damage traces, corrosion and contamination traces and thermal damage traces. The actual cases analysis results show that it was significant to analyze the macro and micro traces on the failure parts’ surface for determining the mechanical failure properties and finding out the mechanical failure reasons.
