    EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON Cu/Zn DIFFUSION COUPLE

    • A diffusion-solution zone between Cu and Zn in the diffusion couple of Cu/Zn was observed under optical microscope. The specimens of the diffusion couple were made by riveting the Zn rod into the Cu base, and then the specimens were diffusion-treated in a vacuum furnace at 350℃ for 50 hours. It was shown by the experiments that the radius of the Zn rod is new factor which affects the thickness of the diffusion-solution zone. The smaller the radius of the Zn rod, the thicker the diffusion-solution zone.
