Abstract
The surface of 45 medium carbon steel was treated by high energy shot peening technique first, and then the microstructures of the surface layer were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD). The practical and de-noising XRD spectrums were presented. The evolution of the grain size on the surface layer was investigated by the full width at half maximum and the average grain size was calculated. The results show that the mean grain size in the medium carbon steel surface with treatment of high energy shot peening is in the range of nanocystalline, and the average grain size is about 64.847 8 nm. The X-ray diffraction can be used to reveal the microstructures of the nanocrystalline layer.
