Analysis on Common Segregation Defects of α-β Double-phase Titanium Alloy Bars

    • The segregation defects found in α-β double-phase titanium alloy bars were analyzed, and solving measures to reduce or eliminate segregation defects were proposed. The results show that the segregations of α-β double-phase titanium alloy bars generally appearred in the form of bright spots. All the segregation defects could be divided into two types of segregation: interstitial elements segregation and main alloy chemical compositions segregation, and the main alloy chemical compositions segregation could be divided into three cases: dilution of alloying elements, α-phase stable elements (mainly aluminum) enrichment and β-phase stable elements enrichment. The segregation defects in titanium alloy bars was generally associated with the smelting process, and in order to reduce or eliminate the segregation defect, selection of intermediate alloy in batching process, preparation of electrode (mixed fabrics) and controlling of alloy melting process should be strengthened, and quality inspection of each process should be focused on.
