Abstract
Determination for the carbon content of polyethylene was specified in the national standard method of GB/T 13021-1991. The above method involving experimental conditions was refined and revised using quality control program. The optimal experimental conditions were got as follows: sample mass was 0.5 g, thermal decomposition was kept at a constant temperature of 600 ℃ for 30 min, calcination was kept at a constant temperature of 750 ℃ for 10 min and the gas flow rate with 70 mL·min-1. The accuracy and repeatability of the test results were raised in the process of determination for carbon content of polyethylene pipes and fittings being used in engineering projects. In the same time the article has made an important significance for modifying the test standard method.
