    Failure Analysis on Fracture of Grade 12.9 Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screws

    • The grade 12.9 hexagon socket head cap screws made of 40CrMo steel fractured in use. chemical compositions, microstructure, fracture morphology of the screws were analyzed by photoelectric direct reading spectrometer, optical microscope and SEM. The results show that the fracture of the screws was hydrogen embrittlement fracture caused by the hydrogen penetration from the acidic medium.
