    FRACTURE ANALYSIS ON STAINLESS MESH

    • In this paper, chemical composition analysis, metallography, SEM and EDS methods were used to analysis the fracture failure of stainless mesh, the result showed that the fracture is caused by stress corrosion and pitting corrosion. The corrosion medium is chloride ion which is full in the damp atmosphere near the sea. The materials quality of the fracture stainless mesh was poor and the mesh chemical composition doesn′t meet the relative technical requirements, the contents of Cr and Ni are lower, however, the content of Mn is higher. All of these cause the stainless mesh failure in resistant to corrosion. The microscopic struture appears that a lot of dispersion carbide particles and ferrite blocks which greatly reduce the stainless mesh′s ability to resist stress corrosion and pitting corrosion.
