Detection of Through-thickness Property of Medium Steel Plate by Shear Method

  • Aiming at the detection of through-thickness property of the medium steel plate, a shear die was designed. The shearing test had been made for the medium steel plate samples made in Tanggang. Through comparing the shear strength of the shear specimens with the z direction percentage reduction of area of tensile specimens, it could be concluded that the shear method to detect the through-thickness property of the medium steel plate was scientific and practical. Also the influence of thickness of the medium steel plate and sampling position on the through-thickness property of the medium steel plate was studied. The results illustrate that the shearing strength was relatively higher if the z direction percentage reduction of area of the steel plate was better, and the shear method to measure the through-thickness property of medium plate was feasible. The thicker the steel plate was, the worse its through-thickness property was, and the property of the centre position of the steel plate was the worst.
