Molding Process and Mechanical Properties of Monel Alloy Butterfly Plates

In order to solve the common problems such as osteoporosis, shrinkage, and porosity in Monel M30C alloy butterfly plate castings, the casting process, mould and mechanical properties of DN250 and DN350 butterfly plates casted with Monel M30C alloy were studied. The results show that horizontal pouring process with axle hole was the preferred precision casting process for DN250 and below butterfly plates. Perpendicular pouring process with top riser and chill was the best choice of sand casting process for DN350 and above butterfly plates. The mechanical property of the test sample casted by wedge metal casting was in accordance with ASTM A494-2009, and wedge metal casting was recommended.
