Failure Analysis on Fracture of Casting Zinc Alloy Hinges

The casting zinc alloy light box hinges made by a company fractured when they were working in initial operation period, and means such as fracture analysis, chemical compositions analysis and metallographic examination were used to analyze the frature reasons. The results show that it was the improper casting process that resulted in the loose microstructure and a lot of casting defects such as porosity, hole and cold shut, which was the main reason for facture of the hinges. Finally, reasonable suggestions for casting technology were put forward.
