Abstract
The basic mechanical properties and the fracture properties were investigated on the flexible composite materials for the aerostat by experiments. The mechanical experiments with both the longitude and the latitude loading directions were performed. From the experimental results,it was found that the Young’s modulus of both kinds was about 10 GPa,and the ultimate strength of longitude direction was much larger than that of the latitude direction. With the varying width of the notch, the fracture properties of the material were investigated. It was found that the load-deflection properties and the crack propagation properties displayed typical brittle fracture. The experimental results and the elastic-plastic fracture results show that the ultimate loading level decreased with the increase of the ratio of the notch width to the specimen width.
