    SPALLING FAILURE ANALYSIS AND IMPROVEMENT OF WORK ROLL FOR COLD STRIP MILL

    • Through investigating and analyzing on spalling fracture characteristics of cold strip work roll, a rare spalling appearance from barrel internal threadlike crack was founded; and through making examinations of chemical compositions, microstructure, micro-hardness, amount residual austenite and micro-fracture on those spalled work rolls, it was proved that main causes for work roll spalling from barrel internal crack were that the microstructure, micro-hardness and amount residual austenite etc. of barrel did not meet the technical specifications of cold work roll. Then some improvements had been made, and the spalling did not occur again.
