Fracture Pattern of PPS Impact Sample under Different Temperature

    • The fractographic features of notched impact PPS specimens at different impact temperature had been studied systematically both by the macroscopic and microscopic observation. The typical morphology and its changing regularity with the impact temperature had been concluded. The macroscopic study showed that, when the impact temperature is lower than 60℃,the fracture surface can be divided into the flat zone, the radiation zone and the last fracture zone. When the impact temperature is higher than 60℃,the fracture surface is rather flat, and nothing could be observed except for several radiation stripes. The microscopic study and the quantitative measurement showed that, the typical morphology of flat zone is rocky pattern. The size and roughness of rocky pattern grow with the increase of temperature. When the temperature is in the range of -196℃ to -60℃,there are lots of thin radiation stripes, and when the temperature is in the range of -60℃<t≤20℃,the radiation stripes decreased gradually. Arc pattern and river pattern could be found in the last fracture zone. When the temperature is lower than 60℃,the notched impact strength grows lineally with the increase of flat zone size.
