    Failure Analysis and Solution on Engine Main Bearings

    • Main bearing failure was one of common engine failures, and it influences the normal work of the engine seriously. Alloy layer seizure and falling off failure were found for main bearings of an engine after scuffing test. Through theory calculation, metallographic examination and comparison test, it was found that design fault of crankshaft counterweight was main cause for the main bearing failure. At last, by changing the crankshaft with eight counterweights instead of four counterweights, the main bearing alloy layer failure problem after scuffing test was solved successfully.
