FAILURE ANALYSIS OF BRASS TUBE FOR LIQUEFIED GAS TRANSMISSION

    • Just after several days of operation,Severe cracks of liquefied gas transmission pipe made from the alloy of H62 brass were discovered near the burner. Several method including ICP-AES,optical microscopy (OM),scanning electronical microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) were used to analyze the cracking. The results showed that there was obvious dezincification in the alloy, which had lowed the strength of the alloy. Additionally, the harmful element Pb was a little higher than the standard, which caused thermal brittleness. The alloy failed for the interactions of residual stress in it with corrode substance in liquefied gas. At last, suggestions were proposed to improve the quality of the alloy.
