Effect of Heat Treatment Process on High Temperature Wear Property of 3Cr2W8V Hot-forging Die Steel

  • The microstructure and hardness of 3Cr2W8V hot-forging die steel after quenching(oil cooling) and tempering at different temperatures were examined. The effect of heat treatment processes on high temperature wear property was studied. It was found that the heat treatment processes had obvious influence on high temperature wear property of 3Cr2W8V steel. The tempering temperatures presented more obvious influence on the wear resistance than the quenching temperatures. With the increase of tempering temperature,the hardness first increased,and then decreased,and the wear resistance was apparently reduced. With the increase of quenching temperature,the wear resistance first increased,and then decreased. As quenched at 1 050 ℃ and tempered at 540 ℃,3Cr2W8V steel possessed the least wear weight loss. Oxidation wear was predominant wear mechanism for the steel under atmospheric conditions at 400 ℃. High hardness was helpful to reduce the plastic deformation of substrate,thus decrease the delamination of oxide film. Excessive un-dissolved carbides and coarse prior austenite grain led to fracture during wear,thus accelerating the delamination of oxide film.
