GB/T 7216-2009, ASTM A247-1998 and ISO 945-1-2008 for the classification of graphite in gray cast iron were introduced. The characteristics of different graphite morphology, causes and impact on performance were analyzed to investigate differences in the assessment of graphite size, as well as significance of metallographic test location. Meanwhile, the understanding of block graphite in gray cast iron were clarified.
