    RESEARCH ON PROPERTIES OF H13 STEEL AFTER SURFACE MECHANICAL ATTRITION TREATMENT

    • The treatment of surface mechanical attrition (SMA) was used on H13 steel. The thickness,grain size,hardness gradient and thermal stability of the surface layer were analyzed by means of SEM,TEM and hardness measurement. The influence of SMA treatment on nitriding of H13 steel was studied. The deformation layer of about 10 μm formed on the surface of H13 steel after SMA treatment. The grains in the layer fined obviously and they had good thermal stability. Furthermore,SMA treatment can greatly enhance the nitriding efficiency.
