Abstract
Brittle fracture is a fracture mode that almost does not produce obvious plastic deformation before fracture, often without any signs, which is extremely harmful to the normal use of parts. The causes of typical brittle fracture of four aviation parts, including stainless steel bolt, side roller, self-locking nut and tee joint are analyzed. The common types of brittle fracture in the manufacturing, assembly and service stages of aviation parts are introduced comprehensively. The methods and auxiliary means to determine brittle fracture were expounded. The root causes of brittle fracture are further analyzed with cases, and the improvement measures to avoid parts failure are summarized and put forward. At the same time, it is proposed that brittle fracture should be objectively understood. Not all brittle fractures are caused by the defects of the parts themselves. The fractured parts should be treated and improved in combination with the causes of fracture and the general rules of failure.
