Abstract
Corrosion perforation occurred in a vertical S304 stainless steel storage tank. The causes of perforation were analyzed by macroscopic observation, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray energy spectrum analysis, ion chromatography analysis, sulfate reducing bacteria test, chemical composition analysis and other methods. The results show that the microbial corrosion caused by sulfate-reducing bacteria was the main cause of material perforation. Welding sensitization, high concentration of chloride ion and sulfate ion accelerated the process of corrosion.
