Improvement of cutting performance of non-quenched and tempered steel for automotive parts

    • The chemical composition, microstructure, mechanical properties and sulfide morphology of steel were important factors affecting the cutting performance of materials. The morphology of sulfides could be improved by tellurium modification, and the MnTe-MnS eutectic compound generated after modification could make sulfides ellipsoidal. The results show that after tellurium modification, the proportion of sulfides with aspect ratios less than 2 was close to 50%, and 90% of sulfides had aspect ratios less than 6. After tellurium modification, the cutting impedance force of the material decreased, the amount of tool wear decreased, the surface roughness of the material decreased, and the cutting performance of the material improved.
