Common failure modes of diesel engine crankshaft

Abstract
The failure crankshaft was studied by scanning electron microscopy, energy spectrum analyzer, X-ray diffractometer, optical microscope, microhardness tester, tensile testing machine and direct reading spectrometer. The cases of crankshaft failure caused by improper structural design, raw material defects, improper assembly and improper use were analyzed, and suggestions for improvement were put forward. The relationship between related parts and crankshaft failure was described. The results show that the failure of crankshaft should be investigated and improved from many aspects such as design, material, heat treatment, machining, transportation, assembly, related connectors, use process and service environment.
