    Comparison of test results between exposing at marine environment and laboratory accelerated corrosion of high manganese steel

    • The corrosion behavior of high manganese steel in seawater was simulated by laboratory accelerated continuous immersion and alternate immersion corrosion test methods, and the marine environmental exposure test was conducted on the same material. The results of marine environmental exposure test and laboratory accelerated corrosion test were compared by macroscopic observation, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis and metallographic examination. The results show that after accelerated corrosion in the laboratory and exposure to the marine environment, the samples all showed a comprehensive corrosion+local point corrosion morphology. Laboratory accelerated corrosion test could replace the marine environmental exposure test. Correlation between laboratory accelerated corrosion test and marine environmental exposure test data in terms of corrosion rate and local corrosion depth could be improved by reducing test temperature and chloride concentration.
