Cracking Causes of Steel Plate of Wind Turbine Tower during Production

    • The steel plate of a wind turbine tower cracked during pressing process into a cylinder. The cracking causes of wind turbine tower steel plate were analyzed by means of macro observation, fracture analysis, chemical composition analysis, mechanical property test, metallographic inspection and low magnification inspection. The results show that there were defects such as cracks on the steel slab, oxidation and decarburization occurred in the heating furnace, and folding cracks were formed after rolling. In the subsequent pressing process into a cylinder, the outer arc surface of the steel plate was cracked under the action of tensile stress.
