Influence of Calculation Method of Original Cross Section Area of Sample on Tensile Strength

    • The influence of different cross section area of sample calculation methods on tensile strength test results of cold-rolled sheet with different strength and thickness was studied by using different cross section area calculation methods. The results show that under the condition of good processing quality, there was no significant difference in the tensile strength test results obtained by the product of the average value of the area, the minimum value of the area and the average width and thickness and the cross section area measured in the middle of the sample gauge distance for cold-rolled sheet samples with different thickness and strength. However, there was a significant difference between the tensile strength test results obtained by the product of the average value of the measured width and thickness, the average value of the area and the minimum value of the area and the tensile strength calculated by the nominal size recommended in GB/T 228.1. It is suggested that the product of average width and average thickness should be used to obtain the original cross section area of sample in the revision of GB/T 228.1.
