Tooling Optimization for Mechanical Property Test of Suspension Clamp Fittings

    • It is difficult to keep the suspension angle within 1/2 of the clamp outlet angle (α) due to the large deformation of the flexible steel cable of the hanger. The suspension angle of conductor was too large, the clamp been squeezed by the bending moment exceeding the design requirements, which led to the failure of the clamp, and the test results could not truly reflect the mechanical properties of the clamp. The loading characteristics of suspension clamp in the process of mechanical property test were obtained through analysis and calculation, and the experimental tooling was optimized, and then the new test tooling was compared with the flexible and rigid equipment. The results show that the new test tooling can control the α/2 angle within the standard range, which solved the problem that it was difficult to control the α/2 angle within the specified range in the standard test method, which led to the distortion of the test results. The standardization of mechanical property test process and the accuracy of the test results of the suspension clamp were improved.
