Structure and Properties of 3003 Aluminum Alloy Sheet Joint Welded by Friction Stir Welding at Super High Rotation Speed

Abstract
The 3003 aluminum alloy sheet was welded by equipment of friction stir welding at super high rotation speed, and the microstructure and mechanical properties of the welded joint were studied. The results show that the welded joint with small welding deformation, narrow heat impact zone and good quality welding surface obtained under the process parameters of rotating speed of 11 000 r·min-1 and welding speed of 1 000 mm·min-1. The microhardness of the weld nugget zone reached 35 HV, and the tensile strength of the welded joint reached 94.7 MPa. The micro morphology of the welded joint showed that there were no defects such as tunnels, cracks and holes.
