Cause Analysis on Fracture of Metal Pressure Springs

    • The φ0.5 mm metal pressure springs produced by a company fractured after a period of use. The fracture reasons of the metal pressure springs were analyzed by means of macroscopic observation, chemical composition analysis, tensile property test, fracture micro morphology analysis, fatigue test and so on. The results show that the metal pressure springs inhaled hydrogen in the process of electroplating and produced hydrogen embrittlement, and cracks generated and expanded in the intergranular fracture zone, which eventually caused the fracture of the pressure springs. The fracture of the metal pressure spring could be effectively controlled by changing the ratio of electroplating solution and the electroplating bath.
