Determination of Asbestos in Powder Cosmetics

  • An analytical method using X-ray diffractometer-polarizing microscope for the determination of asbestos in powder cosmetics was developed. By analyzing the characteristic diffraction peaks and the structure morphology of asbestos in the powder cosmetics, qualitative judgment whether there was asbestos could be made. This qualitative analysis method could quickly complete the asbestos qualitative determination of a large number of samples. Through using X-ray diffractometer combined with the base standard absorption correction method and with isopropanol as the dispersant, quantitative analysis could be realized. This quantitative analysis method had good correlation coefficients and high recovery rate, and by it the asbestos content in the powder cosmetics could be determined rapidly and accurately.
