Abstract: The fracture of a failed spring of diesel engine oil pump was investigated by fracture observation,chemical composition analysis,hardness testing and metallographic examination. The results showed that the crack is mostly along the grain boundary. The reason lies in the abnormal microstructure of the failed spring caused by accidently high temperature heating.
