Abstract: The cracking reason of mold prop of 45 steel was analyzed by means of chemical composition analysis, hardness testing, metallographic examination and so on. The results showed that the cracking in mold prop was caused by coarse grains of raw materials, microstructure defects and microcracks in the center of wall thickness of raw materials, and inhomogeneity of microstructure and hardness after quenching and tempering.
