Abstract: A series of comprehensive analysis on macrostructure,microstructure,chemical composition and hardness of the failure gear were carried out in this paper. It is found that there is some black cellular microstructure which seriously affects the mechanical properties of the gear in the dedendum. The black cellular microstructure leads to the early failure of the gear.
