Abstract: A brake push rod of automobile broke in service,The fractured push rod was analyzed by means of chemical composition analysis,metallographic examination and mechanical property testing. The results showed that the initial crack situated in the thread run outs of the push rod,the unsuitable material and missing heat treatment and misassembly were the main reasons for its break.
