    Reasons for the fracture of Z40CSD10 steel exhaust valve in marine engine

    • 摘要: 某船用发动机Z40CSD10钢排气阀在服役约18 000 h后发生断裂。采用宏观观察、化学成分分析、扫描电镜及能谱分析、力学性能测试、金相检验等方法分析了排气阀断裂的原因。结果表明:该排气阀断裂性质为疲劳断裂,断裂起源于排气阀阀盘的腐蚀坑处,断裂排气阀因长时间接触高温烟气,其表面发生高温氧化腐蚀,且烟气中含有较高含量的腐蚀性S、Cl元素,加速了腐蚀坑的形成,最终导致排气阀发生疲劳断裂。

       

      Abstract: The Z40CSD10 steel exhaust valve of a certain marine engine broke after approximately 18 000 hours of service. The reasons for the fracture of the exhaust valve were analyzed using macroscopic observation, chemical composition analysis, scanning electron microscopy and energy spectrum analysis, mechanical property testing, metallographic examination. The results show that the fracture property of the exhaust valve was fatigue fracture, which originated from the corrosion pit of the exhaust valve disc. The fractured exhaust valve experienced high-temperature oxidation corrosion on its surface due to prolonged exposure to high-temperature flue gas, and the flue gas contained a high content of corrosive media S and Cl elements, which accelerated the formation of corrosion pits and ultimately led to fatigue fracture of the exhaust valve.
