Abstract: Cracking often occurred near the weld of stainless steel pipes such as exhaust pipes and cooling water pipes for automobile chassis. The causes of cracking were analyzed by means of macroscopic observation, chemical composition analysis and metallographic examination. The results show that compared with 06Cr19Ni10 stainless steel, Cr₂₃C₆ carbides were more likely to precipitate near the weld of steel pipe of 1Cr14Mn10Ni1 stainless steel, and local Cr-poor areas appeared, and corrosion cracking occurred along the grain boundary in Cr-poor areas.
