Abstract: Leeb hardness tester and its features, its typical applications and development status were introduced briefly. According to the three main parts of the Leeb hardness measurement process (measurement of Leeb hardness, conversion to other hardness and handling and application of measurement data), several current problems of Leeb hardness testers were analyzed, such as lack of custom hardness conversion tables, weak adaptability to large industry, being difficult to be integrated into modern production lines, etc. Taking into account these problems and the characteristics of modern production, several development directions of Leeb hardness testers were put forward, such as instrumentalism, custom hardness conversion tables, intellectualization, industrialization, automation, etc.
